How to Cleanse and Charge Your Crystals
Crystals accompany us through busy days, and many crystal lovers like to "reset" them regularly — clearing old energy and renewing intention. Here are the most trusted methods, and which stones need special care.
Moonlight — The Gentlest Method
Place your crystals on a windowsill overnight during a full moon. Safe for virtually every stone, moonlight is the favorite method for amethyst, rose quartz and any crystal whose color fades in sun.
Sunlight — Bright but Selective
A short session (1–2 hours) of morning sun energizes hardy stones like clear quartz, citrine and carnelian. But keep amethyst, rose quartz and aquamarine out of strong sun — their colors can fade over time.
Smoke — The Traditional Path
Pass your crystal through the smoke of burning sage or palo santo three times. This method works for every stone, including those that cannot touch water.
Water — Handle With Care
Hard, non-porous stones like clear quartz can be rinsed under cool running water. Never submerge selenite, malachite, or any stone that is soft, porous, or set in jewelry — water can damage the surface or loosen settings.
Selenite & Sound — Effortless Options
Resting crystals on a selenite plate overnight is considered a self-charging method. Sound bowls and bells are another gentle favorite for resetting a whole collection at once.
How Often?
Trust your rhythm: many practitioners cleanse after emotional days, after travel, or on every full moon. Your intention matters more than the schedule.
